I'm glad to see most of you excited about our Science investigation. Thank you Lawrence for alerting us to the show Endeavour was on- hope most of you managed to watch it!
As for our experiment, I will be posting up the pictures two days once as the growth of mould is not a very fast process. It's just like how you guys don't grow up overnight right? It takes time!
So, here are the pics for Day 3...
So...
What do you observe? If there are any changes you see, what are they?
Remember to record your observations in your Activity Book. After Day 1's entry, the next row, please fill it in as Day 3.
I would also like to share something that I read on our blog - Chloe asked a very good question:
How long will it take for fungi to grow?
Being scientists, I want you to think about this question. If you were to guess about the time taken for fungi to grow, what are some factors you would need to think about?
When I say "factors", I'm referring to some things/conditions that will affect the time taken for the mould to grow on the bread.
For example, if I were to use a piece of wholemeal bread and a piece of white bread - would it make a difference?
Think of some other factors and SHARE what comes to your mind!
When your classmate share their thoughts, do chip in and let them know what you think as well!
Have fun exploring, my dear scientists!
Love,
Ms Priya :)
maybe fungi take 1 or 2 day to grow, fungi can grow very fast.
ReplyDeletehi rachel,i think it will take more than that.i think it will take five days.because
Delete1.it will"rot" (like what zhi ai said)
2.water will be absorbed and then it becomes dry
i got a 2 questions
Delete1.do fungi reproduce?
2.do bacteria split when we touch them(on our hand or on the floor)?
Dear Charmaine,
Deletefor question 1...
Do you classify fungi as a living thing?
If you do, it will follow the characteristics of a living thing.
for question 2...
It may depend on the type of bacteria you are talking about. Remember that there's a great diversity of bacteria around us as well!
Who is this
DeleteI think that funghi will take at least a week to grow,as it needs to "rot" the bread and grow mould.
ReplyDeleteoh now i know Chi Ai so the fungi need to "rot" the bread and grow mould?
DeleteI think it will take at least 6 days for fungi to start growing because it decays a bread slowly.
ReplyDeleteAmanda from 3B
I think that fungi will take at least 6-8 or 9 days for fungi to start growing as it needs to "rot" the bread and like what Zhi Ai and and Amanda said.

I agree too...
DeleteDo fungi grow on people??
ReplyDeleteAnd do they grow on dead people too??
I am crious.....Hmm..
Yes,fungi grow on people. An example is "athelete's foot".
DeleteLike what Xaiver said, yes fungi grow on people.

i would want to know if fungi would grow near fishtanks? i never seen that so i really wish to know...
ReplyDeleteDo fungi grow everywhere in the world?
ReplyDeleteI'm a parent. I think there is not sufficient clear instruction. It's not fruitful after so much comments we're still not sure what exactly is expected. There're only day 1 and day 3 pic. The pics are not clear. There're 5 rows in the activity book, so what's expected on the other 3 rows? Leave blank? Do they draw from day 3 since that's the last pic they have? Anyway we've instructed ours to carry on.
ReplyDeleteNot every parent understand or read blocs or even have access to computer, so how are they to ensure or help the poor kids?
Dear Parent,
DeleteThe pupils have been briefed on what was expected of this task. My intention is not to stress parents over this assignment - it was just meant to be a food for thought for the pupils during the holidays. The experiment is an ongoing one and we'll be discussing it in class.
I didn't instruct the pupils to COMPLETE all the blanks. Please check with your child what the task required.
As for your concern about accessibility, I have already checked with the students and parents their ease to Internet access. Students who have limited access have already been briefed.
In future, do identify yourself, so that I'll be able to clarify your concerns personally. Moreover, the children have been taught not to leave anonymous comments on blog and it is our responsibility to role model this - I hope you understand. If you are not satisfied with the reply, kindly email me and we can discuss further on this.
Thank you for your comment.
I think fungi grows within 1 week.fungi needs oxygen and moisture.
