Dear 3B,
firstly GREAT JOB!
All of you did well for your Science Show & Tell and I'm SO PROUD of each and everyone for putting in so much of effort - Kudos to you!
I'm very impressed with your work - keep it up!
Now...let's think about yesterday's Science lesson...
Remember Alien Boy?
If you don't or for those who were not with us yesterday, here's Alien Boy:
Alien Boy is new to Planet Earth and he keeps hearing the word "Plant" being used but he has no idea about what it is. His planet does not have plants, so he has not seen it before.
So, I asked all of you to write some descriptions that might help Alien Boy understand and identify what a plant is.
Many of you came up with interesting descriptors such as "green living things", "can be found on land and in water" - but each time we debated about it , we realised that there are many other things that can fit this description (e.g tortoise, turtle, etc).
So, we started on a KWL on Plants.
K- What I Know
W - What I Want to know
L - What I have Learnt
Some of you shared what you knew about plants -
We then thought of categories to fit the questions and came up with :
- Characteristics of a Plant (What is a plant?)
- Parts of a Plant
- Where to find a plant?
- Function of Plants
- Function of Plant Parts
Remember - not everything here may be true...
We have to investigate further;)!
Next, we moved on to what you wanted to know about plants (W):
I'm sorry that not all of you were able to post your questions in class. So..HERE'S THE SPACE!
1. Please post your questions on plants in the comments section below, if your question has not been added in class.
2. Once your question has been posted (this includes those who have shared your question in class),
please CHOOSE TWO questions from your friends and ANSWER it.
You can research about plants on the Internet or read books about them.
Here are some links to get you started:
http://www.kathimitchell.com/plants.html ( This has a long list of weblinks!)
http://www.mbgnet.net/bioplants/
So, when you post your answers, remember to write down the question you are trying to respond to as well.
DO NOT ANSWER YOUR OWN QUESTION!
Also, I have checked my class list and there is no one named "Anonymous" in my class - so please write your name ;).
Have fun reading up on plants and your friends' posts! See you on Monday!
Love,
Ms Priya :)

1) Why are flowers in bright colors?
ReplyDelete2) Ho do non-flowering plants reproduce?
Shay, non-flowering plants such as moss, fern etc.reproduce by spores. Some of them have spore bags and when the spore bags are due to open, the seeds will be blown away by the wind.
DeleteShay, flowers have are in bright colours so that it (i mean the flowers) can attract bees and butterflies as the are the helpers of the flowers as they will fly from flower to flower and will spread the pollen (which will be stuck on their feet when they land on the flower) to the other flower so that the type of flower will not be extinct even though the is a storm at there where the bee or butterfly first landed and the flowers there died the type of flower which it landed there will not be extinct. In exchange for helping the flowers reproduce of their own kind so that the type of flower will not be extinct, the bee or butterfly can take as many pollen as they(I mean the bees and butterflies) want to their hive(bees)or drink as full as they want to drink(butterflies).Hope you understand!
