Helping Alien Boy with Plants...
Dear 3B,
firstly GREAT JOB!
All of you did well for your Science Show & Tell and I'm SO PROUD of each and everyone for putting in so much of effort - Kudos to you!
I'm very impressed with your work - keep it up!
Now...let's think about yesterday's Science lesson...
Remember Alien Boy?
If you don't or for those who were not with us yesterday, here's Alien Boy:
Alien Boy is new to Planet Earth and he keeps hearing the word "Plant" being used but he has no idea about what it is. His planet does not have plants, so he has not seen it before.
So, I asked all of you to write some descriptions that might help Alien Boy understand and identify what a plant is.
Many of you came up with interesting descriptors such as "green living things", "can be found on land and in water" - but each time we debated about it , we realised that there are many other things that can fit this description (e.g tortoise, turtle, etc).
So, we started on a KWL on Plants.
K- What I Know
W - What I Want to know
L - What I have Learnt
Some of you shared what you knew about plants -
We then thought of categories to fit the questions and came up with :
- Characteristics of a Plant (What is a plant?)
- Parts of a Plant
- Where to find a plant?
- Function of Plants
- Function of Plant Parts
Remember - not everything here may be true...
We have to investigate further;)!
Next, we moved on to what you wanted to know about plants (W):
I'm sorry that not all of you were able to post your questions in class. So..HERE'S THE SPACE!
1. Please post your questions on plants in the comments section below, if your question has not been added in class.
2. Once your question has been posted (this includes those who have shared your question in class),
please CHOOSE TWO questions from your friends and ANSWER it.
You can research about plants on the Internet or read books about them.
Here are some links to get you started:
http://www.kathimitchell.com/plants.html ( This has a long list of weblinks!)
http://www.mbgnet.net/bioplants/
So, when you post your answers, remember to write down the question you are trying to respond to as well.
DO NOT ANSWER YOUR OWN QUESTION!
Also, I have checked my class list and there is no one named "Anonymous" in my class - so please write your name ;).
Have fun reading up on plants and your friends' posts! See you on Monday!
Love,
Ms Priya :)

Update & Crew Assignments for the Day - 21st Feb 2012
Dear 3B,
thank you for informing your parents to visit the blog. As of now, I have 27 parents who have indicated their slot. Thank you for taking the effort to visit the site - I really appreciate it!
Parents, do check that in the row where you wrote your name, there is a GREEN TICK in one of the timeslots.
Sometimes, the site may not have saved the data, and thus, you may not have the slot.
So, please check and I will contact the parents who have not signed up for a slot yet tonight.
Next, Crew Assignments for the Day...
1. Total Defence worksheet
2. EL LS3.3 (Collocations - remember the pictionary game we played today :))
3. Maths Workbook Pages 69-72 (Remember the steps involved in drawing a model - USE a RULER!!)
See you tomorrow!
Love,
Ms Priya :)

Meet the Parents Session Term 1 ( for your action by Tuesday (21/2), 5pm)
Dear Parents,
Term 1 is almost ending. In the past weeks, I have gotten to know the children in 3B better and I hope they have become used to our classroom settings as well.
I'm sure most of you are eager to know about your child's progress in school and thus, our 1st Meet the Parents Session will be held on the 8th of March (Thursday, Week 10).
A letter will be issued out this week. However, I would like to know about your preferred timeslot first,
as all of you have different working schedules.
So, here's how it works:
1. Please go to this website : http://www.doodle.com/tm6chk2guh6dazyu
2. Choose your preferred time slot. (First come first serve basis)
3 In the column where you must write your name , please write it as "(your child's name) Father/Mother" (e.g. Jon's Father).
4. Please choose a slot by TUESDAY (tomorrow), 5PM. Parents who have not signed up by then, I will assign a slot to you based on the availability of slots.
This is to allow me to keep track of the parents who have signed up.
If you find it difficult to access, please sms me and I will slot you in one of the available slots.
As there are 39 pupils in the class, I am only able to give a 5-minute time slot to each of you. I did contemplate a 10 minute slot but that added up to 6.5 hours which will be way past the school's closing time!
However, if you feel that you need to spend a longer time meeting me , kindly choose the last few slots.
Do inform me if you are unable to make it as well.
Thank you and have a nice day.
Warmest Regards,
Ms Priya :)

Learning Journey to Kampong Glam
Dear 3B,
I had great fun on our first fieldtrip together today! I learnt a lot of new things which made me realise that despite the fact that Singapore is a small island, there are still so many exciting places to explore and learn from!
Being in a multi racial and multi religious society, it is important for us to be aware of the customs and culture of other races, so that we learn to appreciate and respect one another.
Here are the pics from today - I did it more like an album , to capture our moments together :)

Well, I hope all of you enjoyed the trip as well as the pictures over here!
Why don't you use this as an opportunity to ask your parents/grandparents to share their childhood stories with you? I bet you will have an interesting time hearing your family talk about their favourite childhood toys, etc.
Do share the stories you hear in this post! The crew and your captain look forward to reading them!
Love,
Ms Priya :)

Crew Assignments for the Day &...
Dear 3B,
please
- complete Practice 1 of your Maths Workbook
- ask your parents to sign the EL LS (Fearless Phil)
- learn your Rainbow Day (RD) lines
REMINDER: MATHS TEST 1 (UNIT 1 & 2) will be conducted THIS FRIDAY (3rd Feb 2012).
On a separate note, we had our very first RD rehearsal today.
My apologies to those of you whose names were missed out on the cast list - I think when I was moving the names around the different categories, some of the names got deleted. In future, I'll be more cautious.
With regards to the rehearsal, I just wanted to say that I understand your excitement. However, when you start disrupting the rehearsal with the noise level, the other actors cannot listen for their cue, and it will be difficult for us to make any refinements. Also, when you are on stage, TAKE YOUR PART SERIOUSLY.
If you keep laughing, all you are doing is wasting everyone else's time because the rehearsal has to halt while I discipline the class. I do want this to be a fun experience, so let's be focused during practice sessions so that we can wrap up and do other fun things for lesson as well. I hope I see more improved behaviour in the upcoming rehearsals!
See you tomorrow!
Love,
